Lake Texoma offers visitors a diversity of entertainment and fun … from shopping to outdoor activities and watersports to historical state and national wildlife parks. Below are just a few things that can be found a short distance from Cedar Mills.

Lake Texoma

Lake Texoma is an 89,000-acre water playground just halfway between Oklahoma City and Dallas. The lake has a string of islands with sandy beaches, scenic coves for anchoring and beautiful shoreline vistas with varied terrain.

Lake Texoma is famous for its fishing, particularly striped bass (stripers!). The lake is also full of catfish, crappie and other kinds of bass. Professional fishing guides are available to ensure a great experience.

Lake Texoma is also known as a great sailing lake and you’ll see lots of beautiful sailboats out on the water. In addition, there are two wildlife refuges on the lake which attract a wide variety of birds especially during the spring and fall migrations.


Eisenhower Birthplace State Historic Park

Denison, TX: Eisenhower Birthplace State Historic Site: lifesize Statue of Ike by Sculptor Robert Lee Dean

Visit the Dwight D. Eisenhower Birthplace and Museum in Denison. While in Denison also visit the Red River Railroad Museum and various antique shops and boutiques. While this drive may be a little further, it is worth the visit. With small town charm and dash of history this would make for a great stop for any family.


Local Festivals

Hot summer nights

From the Gordonville Hay Day Festival to the Whitesboro Peanut Festival. Many of the local communities around the Cedar Mills Marina can provide you with fun filled day with parades, music, shopping and much much more.  The surrounding towns within a 30 minute drive include Sherman, TX, Madill, OK, Whitesboro, TX, Gainesvile, TX and even more. Lavender Ridge Farms

lavendar ridge farmsLavender Ridge Farms grows two varieties of lavender and different scented herbs. They also handcraft wreaths from natural lavender collected on the farm. They offer lavender and herbal soap, potted lavender and herbal plants. Spring 2006 will be the first lavender and herb cutting. Everyone is invited to come on out for a glass of lemonade and a tour of the farm.


Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge

Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge includes 3,000 acres of marsh and water, and 8,000 acres of upland and farmland. During the fall, winter and spring, the marshes and waters are in constant use by migrating and wintering waterfowl. A four-mile, self-guided auto tour route is located in the main management unit of the refuge. Leaflets and roadside exhibits provide information on the area and the refuge programs.


Megastar Casino

Brand new casino located just 5 miles north of Cedar Mills Marina. Need to find a good activity at night? Why not try your luck at the casino! While everyone may not be a winner, you can at least have fun doing it. Who knows your big pay day could be one pull away!  www.megastarcasino.com


Golf Courses

There are several challenging golf courses located within a short distance of Cedar Mills. Buncombe Creek Golf is a PGA Golf Passport Member Course GOLFand is located approximately five-minutes by car from Cedar Mills. The course is currently a nine-hole course. Par/Yardage: 36/3024. Standard greens fee: $10 weekdays, $12 weekends and $6 twilight.

Another nearby course is Chickasaw Pointe, a championship course featuring 18 holes, par 72, with bent grass greens, bermuda grass tees and fairways, well-placed sand bunkers and spectacular lake views. Both courses include putting and chipping greens, driving range, and pro shop with cart rentals. Chickasaw Pointe is a quick 25 minute drive north of Cedar Mills. No metal spikes allowed at either course.


Cross Timbers Hiking Trail

Built in 1969, the Cross Timbers Hiking Trail heads west from Juniper Point, some 14 miles along the southern shoreline of Lake Texoma. The trail is divided into segments and marked with mile posts and other references. Impressive vantage points overlook the lake and shoreline and the surrounding woodlands typify the Cross Timbers environment. The trail’s difficulty is rated as moderate to easy and its head is located approximately five minutes from Cedar Mills.


FRANKBUCKFrank Buck Zoo

Located only 25 minutes away in Gainesville, TX, this is a must see place for all ages. From an African Spurred Tortoise to a Vietnamese Pot Bellied Pig, Frank Buck Zoo will have something for everyone.  This top rated zoo is a short drive down from the Cedar Mills Marina, that can make a day even better while spending your evenings by the lake.

Wild Berry Farm or Tulip Farm of Pilot Point, Texas

Check out these close family fun option. These two places are great for spring activities. They are not open during the summer but if you are here during their season hours they are a must see of Northeast Texas.  Pick all types of berries and flowers throughout your stay at the berry farm, or but and pick your own tulips at the tulip farm. Only a 10 minute drive from Cedar Mills Marina. Take a look at their website to book with them during your stay.
